The Panait Istrati Braila County Library is one of the oldest institutions of its kind in the country, has nearly 138 years of uninterrupted operation (established by Royal Decree on August 23, 1881). However, it is open to modernity, being the first fully computerized library in the county and one of the most appreciated in the country in terms of offering attractive services to the public.
The Panait Istrati Braila County Library is the first public library in Romania that is funded by Erasmus and has extensive experience in non-formal activities, different from the traditional ones of a library. A lot of the activities are related to social integration through the employability of the disadvantaged categories.
